Promotion of marketing and image of the industry
Spain is introducing a mandatory fee in the pig sector, among other things to promote marketing and the image of the industry. The relevant regulation of the Minister of Agriculture has just been published in the Official Journal. As a result, Spanish pig farmers must pay a so-called production contribution of 0.055 euros for each pig raised in Spain and delivered to slaughterhouses during the 2024/2025-2027/2028 marketing seasons.
Help also for breeding and sustainable development
The regulation requires slaughterhouses to pay a tax of 0.055 euros for each slaughtered pig and each imported carcass. Half of the contribution should be used to improve the marketing and image of the industry. According to the regulation, about one third should be used to support animal breeding, and the rest of the funds should be used to support sustainable development, among other things.
The money is to be collected and managed by the Spanish association of manufacturers, Interporc. It has also prepared the regulations. According to Spanish law, an agreement concluded by the industry association under certain conditions can be extended to the entire sector.
