If earlier, in order to connect to the victims' computers, telephone scammers asked to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer and Skype, now they are most often offered to download AeroAdmin and HopToDesk. All of these programs allow remote control and management of computers, the State Police reported. The Cybercrime Department has concluded that compared to last year, the number of frauds and fraud attempts has increased, which has led to an increase in the amount of damage caused to victims. In the period from January 1 to August 9 of this year, the police received information from victims who were defrauded by telephone scammers for a total of approximately 5.43 million euros. In turn, according to the Finance Latvia Association, in the first seven months of this year, clients of the four largest banks in Latvia, having confirmed the transactions themselves, gave 10 million euros to scammers. We are talking about clients of Swedbank, SEB banka, Citadele and Luminor Bank. Calls from bank employees and police officers are still popular. Criminals continue to use psychological pressure on the victim, forcing them to act quickly and thoughtlessly. In addition, fraudsters offer "help" and ask to install remote access software. It allows you to access and control your computer from another device via the Internet. The programs provide such functions as screen sharing, file transfer, and remote control. As a result, fraudsters can gain access to bank accounts or steal personal information. The State Police once again reminds that neither the police nor banks ask for personal data from residents, do not ask to confirm payments, or install any programs.
