On Tuesday, Health Minister Riina Sikkut (Social Democratic Party) will submit a proposal to the government to increase fees for visits to a specialist doctor for patients with certain incomes, writes Rus.ERR .
The amount by which this fee, which currently stands at five euros, could increase will be determined after consultation with the government.
"Budget talks will continue on Tuesday, during which I will present this proposal to the government, after which it will be agreed by how much the fee for the visit will increase," the minister said.
"The health fund is currently still calculating [what increase is needed]. There are different types of self-financing in health care, the overall level of which is high. It is not possible to increase the fee equally for everyone – by five, ten euros or even more. It must be a more reasonable scheme that shifts the burden of self-financing from those groups that cannot afford it now to those for whom it will be relatively easy," Sikkut explained.
