Analysts classified brut, extra-brut and semi-dry wines into this category. As a result, for the first time in the modern history of Russia, sparkling drinks with low sugar content have surpassed semi-sweet wines in production volumes, of which 28.5 million liters were produced over the same period. In addition, sweet sparkling wines accounted for another 4 million liters. Thus, in January-June, 62.5 million liters of sparkling wines were produced in Russia, which is 20% more than the same period last year. However, Rosstat’s data is somewhat different: previously the service reported the production of 61 million liters of this product in the first half of the year.
Market participants and analysts explain the increase in production of sparkling wines with low sugar content in Russia by the growing demand for this category from the population.
In particular, sales of such alcoholic beverages in Simple Group in physical terms for the first half of 2024 increased by 46% compared to the same period last year, a company representative said. He did not disclose absolute values. The share of Russian dry wines during this period, according to him, increased from 19 to 24%, and imported ones, accordingly, decreased from 68 to 63%. The rest are semi-sweet sparkling wines.
The wine trading company Fort, according to its executive director Alexander Lipilin , encountered a change in the preferences of Russians seven years ago – much earlier than other suppliers. In the company, from 2015 to June 2024, sales of semi-sweet wines fell threefold, and brut wines increased fivefold, the top manager said.
An increase in demand for sparkling wines with reduced sugar content was recorded in large retail chains, said Igor Karavaev, chairman of the presidium of the Association of Retail Trade Companies . According to him, brut and extra-brut now account on average for “slightly more than half” of the range of sparkling wines in large retail chains.
