Seller turnover growth has slowed on marketplaces

In the period from January to May of this year in the Russian Federation, there was not only a slowdown in the growth rate of Russian e-commerce , but also a decrease in the growth of sellers’ turnover, writes Kommersant with reference to research data from Tochka Marketplaces.

According to the results of the study, despite increased consumer spending, over the specified period of time the figure increased by 43.4% year-on-year; in 2023 the same dynamics was 72.6%. Due to the increase in the threshold for entering platforms and the inability to gain a foothold on them, sellers are reducing the pace of registration, which also hinders the active development of marketplaces.

In particular, the revenue of sellers of the Megamarket online platform in January-May increased by 136% year-on-year, to 235 thousand rubles, Ozon – by 53.8%, to 108.4 thousand rubles, Wildberries – by 27.6%, up to 364 thousand rubles. At the same time, the marketplaces themselves directly declare more pronounced growth. Ozon representatives explained that in the first quarter of this year, the average revenue of sellers increased by 91%, last quarter – 87%. Wildberries noted dynamics of 67% and 79%, respectively.

Analysts also emphasized that in 2023, sellers’ turnover grew against the backdrop of pent-up demand, and currently the situation is stabilizing.
