Segregation textiles by new. Duties for municipal and residents

From 1 January 2025 year in the whole European Union, including Poland, the obligation of selective collection of textiles, clothing and shoes comes into effect. But new containers for textiles will not appear before houses, municipalities are obligated to provide Points for Selective Collection of Municipal Waste and other solutions facilitating inhabitants to donate unnecessary materials.

From 2025 year, in accordance with EU regulations, an obligation to selectively collect waste of type: textiles, clothing, shoes.

Before the homes of Poles will not appear However new containers for textile waste, but they should segregate these and dispose at points designed for this .
This is the task of municipalities, which is implemented in the Points for Selective Collection of Municipal Waste (PSZOK). Each municipality is obligated to establish at least one such point on its area.

In Europe we buy annually 26 kg of clothing

New rules of segregation textiles

according to regulations adopted in Poland in 2019 year, from 1 January 2025 municipalities have a obligation to selectively collect textile waste. This means that in PSZOKs, and therefore Points of Selective Collection of Municipal Waste, will be able to recycle used textile materials, clothing and shoes. 

In addition to selective collection of textile waste in thePSZOK, municipalities may additionally provide:

  • containers for textiles, which will be placed in public places (e.g. by neighborhoods, schools or shops), enabling easy access to residents,
  • accessible collection in bags “door-to-door”, relying on determined days, on which residents can put the bags in front of homes/in specified locations, from which will be collected (this can increase efficiencyofthesystem),
  • collectionofrecoverabletoreusetextilesdirectlyfromhousingafterreportingin accordancewithrulesadoptedinthemunicipality,
  • cooperatewithnon-profitorganizationsconcernedwithcharitablecollectionofclothingsuitableforreusableuse.
