A year ago, about 9.4 million passenger tires were sold. In the first half of 2024, sales of this category amounted to 10.34 million units. Passenger tires traditionally occupy a significant market share: in the first half of last year they accounted for 39% of total sales, equivalent to 24.1 million units.
Retail sales of truck tires are up 34% in the reporting period this year, and light truck tires are up 8%, according to the center. However, information on the dynamics of the market for all types of tires in the first half of this year is not presented in the CRPT. The CRPT does not provide data on market dynamics for all types of tires in the first half of this year.
The total supply of tires in Russia in the first half of 2024 increased by 19% to 40.2 million tires, reported the CRPT. Of these, more than half are 22.6 million units. – were provided with local production. Its volume in the first half of the year increased by 17% year on year. The volume of imports increased by 20% year-on-year to 17.6 million tires.
In the structure of domestic production, 79% are tires for passenger cars, 10% are tires for trucks, 8% are light truck tires for medium-duty trucks, buses and other equipment, according to the CRPT data. The production of passenger tires in the reporting period increased by a quarter, light truck tires by 7%, and the production of truck tires decreased by 15%.
According to the results of the first six months of this year, 80% of imports consisted of passenger tires. Truck tires accounted for 9% of supplies, light truck tires – 5%. Imports of passenger tires in January-June increased by 30%, truck tires by 8%, and light truck tires decreased by 21%.
The weighted average price (taking into account the market share of a specific model) for a new passenger tire in the first half of 2024 increased by 13% year-on-year to RUB 6,079. Truck tires, according to CRPT, fell in price by 4% to RUB 24,180. per tire.
The growth of domestic production is one of the effects of the whitening of the market, says Varvara Mikhailova, head of the product group at CRPT . Mandatory tire labeling in Russia was launched at the end of 2020.
“We note that the share of counterfeit goods on the market has decreased by 2 times. This made it possible for bona fide businesses to take vacated shares and increase the volume of production of their products,” commented Mikhailova.
