Sales of olive oil and sunflower oil blends up 11%

Sales of a mixture of sunflower and olive oil in physical terms from August 2023 to August 2024 increased by 11% year-on-year, Kommersant writes, citing NielsenIQ data.

This category, according to analysts, has become the fastest growing among vegetable oils, its share in the overall sales structure has grown from 8.4% to 9.8% in a year.

Interest in alternative products, including corn, cottonseed and coconut oil, has increased, with sales up 8.6% year-on-year, and their share rising from 2% to 2.4%.

Magnit notes that sales of niche oils, mixes and products with additives in January-July 2024 increased by 20% year-on-year. Sales of all categories of vegetable oils in physical terms decreased by 4.4% year-on-year.

Experts suggest that the overall reduction in vegetable oil consumption could be facilitated by the popularization of a healthy lifestyle and a reduction in the proportion of fried foods in the daily diet.

According to NielsenIQ, olive oil showed the worst result over the 12 months, having lost 15.4% of demand in physical terms. A reduction in consumption is also observed in the segment of the most popular sunflower oil. In physical terms, its sales over the year decreased by 5.9%, despite a decrease in the average price on the shelf by 0.9%. Its share in the sales structure over the year decreased by 87.6%, to 86.2%.
