RATEK proposed integrating marketplace databases with Rospatent registries, as well as establishing a “unified response procedure” for marketplaces to requests from copyright holders about violations of their rights. It was also proposed to oblige marketplaces to block seller transactions in relation to goods that violate the rights of the brand owner. And copyright holders will be registered on online platforms “similar to the Customs Register of Intellectual Property Objects” so that marketplace employees can “carry out preventive work” and prevent counterfeit goods.
According to market participants, the problem of selling counterfeit and illegally imported goods on marketplaces is acute, but only in the category of inexpensive goods, such as headphones, watches, clothing, coffee, as well as children's goods and toys. This is due to insufficient control over suppliers and assortment on sites. To solve the problem, it is necessary to increase their responsibility for selling illegal products.
A representative of Ozon and Wildberries noted that the companies are independently developing measures to protect customers from counterfeits. Yandex Market also reported that employees are independently engaged in filtering counterfeit products.
