Russia's Rosselkhoznadzor veterinary office proudly announced that 447 goats, including 432 pregnant ones, were sent from the St. Petersburg region on a journey to North Korea. This is the result of an agreement between Vladimir Putin and dictator Kim Jong-un on strategic cooperation in health, medicine, science and agriculture. This is Russia's way of paying back North Korean weapons and ammunition.
According to Agrarheute, the Russian goats are to improve the milk supply for children and adolescents in the North Korean city of Rason. The problem is that the little ruminants must first survive a train journey of over 6,000 km.
According to the UN World Food Programme, about 10.7 million of North Korea's nearly 26 million people suffer from food shortages every day. Because of chronic malnutrition, 18 percent of children have trouble growing and developing properly. North Korea wants to improve the supply of dairy products for children by establishing goat farms.
