Blueberry curd cheese with blueberries in chocolate glaze – this is the option that the majority of residents voted for as part of the “Celebrate KAR!” campaign. The campaign, initiated by the leading Latvian milk processing company Food Union, was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Crow, the symbol of the Kārums brand. Now the second stage of the campaign has begun – during the summer, Food Union masters will develop a recipe for a new cheese. In turn, the third and final stage will take place in the fall – a new, anniversary product will appear on store shelves throughout Latvia. As part of the campaign, on the portal www.kra30.eu residents were asked what kind of curd cheese they would like to see as an anniversary one. In total, the offer included 15 flavors of cottage cheese, 15 additives and 3 types of glaze. From May to June, 19 thousand people took part in the survey, offering 47 thousand different recipes. In third place in popularity was cheese with chocolate glaze, nuts and Cappuccino flavor (5407 votes), in second place was cheese with Tiramisu flavor, with caramel glaze and salted caramel inside (7941). In turn, blueberry cheese took the lead with 11,302 votes. “It’s interesting that this taste was once part of the Kārums range, but now, thanks to nostalgic feelings and the popularity of blueberries, it will return to stores. Thanks to everyone who participated in the campaign. Now we just have to be patient and wait for the new cheese to appear on store shelves ", noted the head of dairy product brands at Food Union, Ilva Veidemane. As reported, in April of this year, the company expanded the range of curd cheeses with three new cheeses – banana, lemon and raspberry flavors. Thus, there are currently 36 products offered in the Kārums brand line. An interesting historical fact: the crow is not at all the same age as Kārums, but a year younger. Why did this happen? First, in 1993, a unique recipe for curd cheese as we know it today was created, and the name of the product was Kārums. In the first year, the ginger cat became the symbol that decorated the product packaging. But already in the second year of Kārums’ existence, significant changes took place – the vanilla curd changed into orange packaging, and the symbol was changed to the Crow.
