Variability has accompanied us since the dawn of time and is embedded in our decisions, but the variability of the world that we have been dealing with in recent years is an unacceptable element in everyday work on farms and causes great discomfort in everyday management.
The changes we experience every day are the result of Russian aggression against Ukraine, global trade turmoil, changing climate and administrative decisions regarding the Common Agricultural Policy and the European Green Deal. We see a great many factors that affect agricultural production and threaten its stability and profitability. Defining them and then responding to them by agricultural producers is crucial.

Firstly, business risk should be included in the business plan of farmers, they cannot bear the risks on their own. Instruments are needed to manage them. It has become clear that there is a need to adapt tools, both within the CAP and outside it, to crisis situations.
Agricultural policy should also respond to changes. It offers many solutions that help manage threats, but many of them are unknown to us. Something new will also emerge, after its current strategic review. What will it be and how do farmers view it?
In order for agricultural production to be stable and, above all, profitable, producers should take specific actions to eliminate the harmful effects of factors or at least minimize them. Therefore, it is necessary to take multi-pronged actions today that will minimize the adverse effects of climate change on food security, and also slow down the further progression of climate change. A change in the approach to plant production, better understanding of plants and a precise approach to the measures used to support agricultural production are extremely important.
We should also create favorable conditions for breeding and raising animals. Ignorance costs a lot, the key is education and implementing beneficial solutions today.
Is it possible to protect yourself from variability? Of course, yes. We will discuss how to do it during this year's edition of the National Challenges in Agriculture .
