According to a press release, this means that the entire 2023/2024 season ended with a record rapeseed processing in Poland, amounting to 3,633 thousand tons. The increase in processing in PSPO oil plants compared to the previous 2022/2023 season amounted to 254 thousand tons and was higher by as much as 375 thousand tons compared to the 2020/2021 season.

Rapeseed oil production in Poland
According to PSPO data, crude oil production in the first half of 2024 amounted to 774 thousand tonnes, i.e. practically analogous to the record-breaking second half of 2023 in this respect (781 thousand tonnes), except that rapeseed processing itself was slightly higher at that time (by 21 thousand tonnes).
– The total supply of rapeseed oil in Poland in the entire 2023/2024 season amounted to 1,555 thousand tons, which places our country among the leading European producers. Of this volume, 572 thousand tons were refined, which in turn means that exactly 2/3 of the domestic oil supply was directed to the biocomponent manufacturing sector. The above data also illustrate the positive trend in seed oiling that has been continuing for several seasons, which allowed for achieving processing efficiency in terms of oil yield at an average level of 42.8% over the last season – we read in the release.

Can records reappear?
– After the record rapeseed processing in Poland recorded in 2023, we expected another seasonal record, which, however, continues to surprise positively with its scale. This is a direct consequence of the record domestic harvest and seed stocks with which the previous season began, which ensured a high supply of the raw material for practically the entire period. The current situation is much more tense, which raises concerns about the possibility of maintaining this scale of processing in the face of slightly smaller harvests and limited possibilities of compensating with imports the volume of rapeseed, which will traditionally be exported to Germany, primarily from the western provinces – said Mariusz Szeliga, president of the board of the Polish Association of Oil Producers.
This is not the end.
– Domestic rapeseed oil production increased season by over 130 thousand tons, of which 20 thousand tons were directed to the food sector. This means that once again biofuels rose to the challenge, because domestic production of methyl esters was the main direction of development of Polish rapeseed. Industry estimates indicating that biodiesel producers will be able to use an additional quarter of a million tons of rapeseed have been confirmed practically 100%, because processing in companies associated with PSPO increased by this volume – summed up Adam Stępień, General Director of PSPO.
