According to the Lublin 112 portal, 147.2 mm of rain fell in the Zamość region in one day, which is the equivalent of 147.2 liters of water per square meter. This is a historical record. The storms caused a lot of damage to roads, fields and properties.
By 10 p.m., the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Zamość had recorded over 150 calls, of which 100 in the city of Zamość and 40 in the Zamość commune. Over 140 times, the firefighters from Zamość were called to pump water out of the streets, properties and buildings. Eight interventions concerned broken trees,
and one torn off roof. President of Zamość Rafał Zwolak convened crisis team. In addition, the rain is still falling, and the forecasts are not optimistic.
The PSP and OSP units in the entire Zamość and Hrubieszów districts also had a busy day and night. Firefighters and residents are still fighting flooding and destruction caused by yesterday's storm. In some places, flash floods occurred yesterday. The water washed away many crops, many fields were flooded.
"The hourly rainfall reached 88.3 mm, while the total has already exceeded 131 mm. This is a significant exceedance of the previous daily record, which dates back to May 31, 1980 and amounted to 89.9 mm. It is worth noting that this means that the hourly rainfall was close to the previous daily record… And the current record will still be improved, because the rain will not stop soon and the total will unfortunately exceed 150 mm." – wrote the Polish Storm Hunters on Facebook yesterday.
