Demand for fresh berries has increased in stores of the Magnit retail chain this year, writes the company’s press service .

With the onset of the summer season, berry sales more than tripled due to the expansion of supply from Russian suppliers. Thus, in the first half of 2024, sales of fresh berries in Magnit stores increased 1.6 times in physical terms compared to the figure for January-June 2023, according to analytics from Magnit Data, a retailer data management service.
The most popular berry was blueberry – it holds first place in terms of the number of packages sold. This year, the demand for this berry has more than doubled. In first place in terms of sales growth was currants, the demand for which jumped almost 20 times against the backdrop of an expansion in the supply of this berry, which Magnit purchases from domestic suppliers. In addition, this year the retail chain significantly increased sales of cranberries (2.8 times) and raspberries (1.8 times).
In June, sales of berries at Magnit increased 3.3 times, including blueberries – more than four times. Demand for strawberries also increased: they were sold by a quarter more than a year earlier. The growth in demand for berries continued in July: in the first week of this month, 1.8 times more berries were sold than a year earlier. The drivers of growth in the category in July were blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, gooseberries and currants.
This year, Magnit has increased the supply of seasonal berries grown in Russia to its stores: strawberries, currants, raspberries and blackberries. In addition, the retail chain is making test deliveries to stores of honeysuckle, sea buckthorn, chokeberry, dogwood and other “niche” berries and fruits.
