"Hello, there is a snake in your parcel!" What do residents of the Baltic countries send through parcel terminals, and what is prohibited from being sent

"Здравствуйте, в вашей посылке – змея!" Что отправляют через пакоматы жители стран Балтии, и что посылать запрещено

It has been noticed that depending on the season, both the delivered goods and the customers' habits change. And sometimes you can find really surprising contents in the parcels. For example, snakes and other exotic animals. What goods are most often ordered in the fall? Who most often buys on AliExpress, Temu and Shein? Why can't animals be transported together with other goods? Jānis Ronis, Head of Parcel Delivery Business Operations at Smartpost Itella in Latvia, spoke about this in more detail. "In the summer, parcels sent through the Smartpost Itella network are usually smaller in size, but with the onset of autumn, their size and weight increase. The tendency for parcels to increase in size is especially noticeable in autumn and winter, which is related to seasonal changes: people are more active in buying warm footwear and clothes, which are bulkier; parents buy goods for kindergarten and school. We have also seen an increase in the volume of medicines and dietary supplements, including vitamins, from online pharmacies, which is related to the onset of colds and other seasonal viruses," says Jānis Ronis, Head of Parcel Delivery Business Operations at Smartpost Itella in Latvia. He shared his observations made during the work with Delfi.
