On the eve of Watermelon Day, the delivery service from Cooper stores and restaurants analyzed the demand for watermelons this summer.

In the first two months of summer, Russians bought 1.4 times more watermelons than in the same period last year. In total, this is 653 tons of berries (an increase of 43%). Muscovites purchased the most watermelons – 168 tons, residents of St. Petersburg bought 52 tons, Ekaterinburg residents – 19 tons and Krasnodar residents – 17 tons. According to the service, 40% of Russians choose watermelons weighing 7 kg, 22% – 3 kg, 17% – 4.5 kg.
This summer, yellow watermelons are purchased 7 times more often than last year. And the demand for seedless berries increased 4 times in June and July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The most favorite varieties among Russians remain the domestic “Sugar”, “Astrakhansky”, “Hummingbird”, “Black Prince” and “Dragon Egg”.
