It turned out that in June, Russians purchased an average of 5 million packages of various cat food per day, and the demand for treats for furry friends increased by a third year on year.

The tradition of keeping pets is very widespread in Russia. According to Ipsos and the Center for Animal Nutrition and Welfare, in 2023 there were more than 74 million pets, which lived in 56% of Russian households. Moreover, traditionally in our country people often prefer to have cats.

According to Pyaterochka analytics, demand for dry cat food in June increased by 4%, for wet food – by 2%, and for small treats that are usually used to pamper pets – by 33%. About 8% of turnover in the “feed” category comes from goods of the chain’s own brands.

“Most pet owners treat them like family members, so when purchasing products they carefully study the composition, set quality requirements and, of course, take into account the taste preferences of their pets,” commented Tatyana Ermolaeva, federal manager of the private label category “Pet Food”. » retail chain "Pyaterochka" .
