The Protection of Consumer Rights (PTAC) Center calls for the rights of airline passengers in compliance with EU regulations in light of the decision by the Latvian national airline airBaltic to cancel the summer season of almost 5,000 flights, said agency in the center.As reported by PTAC, in the case of flight cancellation the airline
is obliged to offer passengers two options – another route or a refund of money.
When receiving notice of a flight cancellation passengers need to follow instructions and choose the most suitable option. If the route changes the system automatically offers the nearest available alternative flight. If this option is
not suitable, the passenger can select another date. If the optimal option is not>found, the passenger must contact the airline’s call center. But, according to EU
rules, the airline is not obligated to pay compensation, If a flight is canceled no later than two weeks before the scheduled date of departure, PTAC notes. At the same time, if the passenger has insurance and has incurred
losses, for example, for a booked hotel or other services, he should contact his insurer. The amount of insurance reimbursement depends on the policy selected and the risk(s) covered. If the
situation with the airline is not resolved, the passenger can contact the PTAC, by submitting a application with supporting documents, including correspondence with the airline, copies of tickets and etc. d. Last year the PTAC received
547 complaints from airline passengers about carriers and 125 in related to the cancellation of flights. In 2023 year 619 reports were received, including 85 of cancelled flights.On January 2 January announced that because of delays with engine service in
