Protesting prosumers at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment with 5 demands for home photovoltaics

Protestujący prosumenci w MKiŚ z 5 postulatami dla przydomowej fotowoltaiki

On July 10 this year at 4:00 p.m. a group of prosumers with photovoltaic installations meets with representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment at the Ministry's headquarters.

This meeting is the result of our long-term activities aimed at improving the situation of prosumers and promoting fair energy policy in Poland – emphasize the leaders of the Facebook group Prosumer protest – strike of photovoltaic owners – photovoltaic protest.

Here are 5 postulates that will restore the profitability of home photovoltaics

As a group of almost 5,000 people, we want to draw public attention to the injustices we face. Our investments in photovoltaic installations were aimed not only at reducing energy costs, but also at supporting Poland's ecological energy transformation. Unfortunately, the current situation on the energy market and pricing policy make our efforts less and less profitable, and in some cases lead to serious financial losses – emphasize the leaders of the Facebook group Prosumer protest – strike of photovoltaics owners – photovoltaics protest.

From July 1, owners of home photovoltaics will be forced to bill their electricity on an hourly basis

Here are their 5 most important demands that are intended to restore profitability in home photovoltaics in the net-billing system:

  1. Minimum energy purchase price. Currently, prosumers receive approximately PLN 0.25 for each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity fed into the grid, while the same energy is sold to other consumers for PLN 1.25. We propose the introduction of a minimum energy repurchase price that would be fair and adequate to the costs incurred by prosumers.
  2. Addressing the problem of an inefficient power grid. The energy produced by our installations often does not even reach the nearest transformer, which indicates the inefficiency of the power grid. It is necessary to modernize and expand the energy infrastructure to enable effective use of the energy we produce.
  3. Special tariff for people heating their homes with electricity. People who heat their homes with electricity should be able to benefit from preferential energy rates to minimize heating costs and promote ecological solutions.
  4. Possibility to finance all fees from a prosumer account. Prosumers should be able to finance all fees related to energy production and consumption from their prosumer account to reduce their financial burden.
  5. Lowering electricity prices for all citizens. An ordinary citizen who signs a contract with an energy company receives a fixed rate for electricity. In this way, energy companies earn a fortune on the differences in purchase and resale.

Less than two years ago, the price of energy was twice as high, and we were led to believe that net-billing would be more profitable for the prosumer – the return on installation was promised after 5-10 years and the cost of sold kW would be around PLN 0.70. The reality turned out to be different – currently, the person installing a photovoltaic installation is unable to determine whether and when the investment will pay off, and the prices per kW of energy drop to zero. Meanwhile, large photovoltaic farms receive compensation for switching off and not producing energy, which puts them in a much better situation than ordinary prosumers – summarize the leaders of the Facebook group.
