Primark has named former Tesco senior executive Nigel Jones as its new chief operating officer.

Jones will be responsible for the high street retailer’s global supply chain and logistics, as well as its technology and business transformation function.

He joins from Premier Inn owner Whitbread, where he worked as its group operations and transformation director for the last seven years.

Prior to that, he spent more than 25 years at Tesco, where he started his career as a store manager and worked up to several senior roles across stores, technology, supply chain and procurement.

Primark chief executive Paul Marchant said: “Nigel joins us with a wealth of experience of running international operations of significant scale across multiple markets including the UK, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

“With Primark now established in 17 markets we stand to gain significantly from Nigel’s global expertise across the key areas of transformation, technology, supply chain and logistics.”

The retailer bolstered its advisory board back in April when it appointed ex-Sephora CEO Martin Brok, former Tesco and Gap executive Christophe Roussel, as well as ex-Walmart president of digital and chief marketing officer Sona Chawla.
