You will now have to pay much more to connect to the power grid than before.
Elektrilevi announced that from September 1 this year, the connection fee will increase by as much as 46 percent: from 226.23 euros to 331.15 euros, plus a 22 percent turnover tax will be added to this.
"As of September 1, 2024, the price per ampere based on the connection fee in a given area will be 331.15 euros excluding VAT. The capacity of the Estonian electricity grid is running out, and changing consumption habits require a much more powerful grid in the future," Elektrilevi wrote.
The state-owned company complained that the current network pricing methodology and connection prices do not allow Elektrilevi to invest in new connections to the desired extent.
"In its development plan, Elektrilevi has also outlined solutions if the current methodology for calculating the network fee is changed in a way that would allow Elektrilevi to further develop the network, and those wishing to connect to the network would only have to bear the costs associated with the construction of a specific connection point, and then Elektrilevi would be able to keep the price per ampere low. In cooperation with the Ministry of Climate and the Competition Authority, we are looking for ways to review the current methodology and thereby increase the availability of connections," explained Ardi Ratassepp, a member of the board of Elektrilevi.
Ratassepp also explained that the data from the connection service analysis show that the current price per ampere does not cover reasonable investment costs for connection, either for connection contracts concluded last year or this year.
In order to continue the possibility of connecting to the power grid, from 1 September 2024 the price per ampere, which forms the basis of the Elektrilevi connection fee, will increase from the current 226.23 euros to 331.15 euros excluding VAT when connecting to the low-voltage network in a certain zone, i.e. within a radius of up to 400 metres from the substation. If the distance to the substation is more than 400 metres, the connection fee will continue to be calculated based on actual costs.
This change will not affect customers who applied for connection before September 1, 2024, or those whose connection is already in the final stage or awaiting a contract proposal.
