The growth of the average ticket for a cinema visitor was partly affected by the increased average bill for popcorn – 331 rubles, which is 13% higher than in 2023, and 17% higher than in 2022. The rise in popcorn prices was also confirmed by representatives of cinema chains.
“The price increase, the first since 2021, occurred only this year and is in the range of 10-12%, which is significantly lower than the increase in ingredient costs. This does not affect the popularity of popcorn among our viewers; sales in our network in 2024 are higher than in 2023 . The most popular popcorn is caramel. Its share in sales is more than 30%,” said Olga Proskuryakova , vice president of the Karo chain for marketing management, cafes and cinema bars.
According to her, previously corn grain was mainly imported from France, and equipment from America. Vice -president of the Delovaya Rus company (supplier of grain for popcorn to cinemas in the Russian Federation) Iskander Aminov also emphasized that the share of Russian grain in the market has increased significantly in recent years. According to him, today it reaches 75%.
