The rusty projectiles were dug up during earthworks at the Experimental Variety Evaluation Station in Cicibór Duży, in the commune of Biała Podlaska, in the Lublin province. The workers immediately notified the police.
"The dangerous finds were secured by the police until the arrival of sappers, who revealed additional "dangerous souvenirs". They neutralized a total of 20 grenades!" – we read in the police statement.
It turned out that the found projectiles were mortar grenades, probably from the period of World War II. Sappers from the Military Unit in Chełm took away 20 mortar grenades of caliber 82 mm. The finds have already been neutralized on the training ground.
"Remember that in the event of discovering an object resembling an unexploded device, under no circumstances can we move, touch or disarm such a finding. It is a good idea to protect the place where it is located from access by unauthorized persons, especially children. If we are in an open space or in a forest, this place should be marked so that no one enters it and it can be easily found. The nearest police unit should be notified of the finding as soon as possible. The police will secure the area and notify the sappers. Remember that very large projectiles can have a range of impact of up to several hundred meters," warn police officers from Biała Podlaska.
