Since Estonia has never been able to implement the directive on competition, it will have to pay the a hefty fine.
The European Commission has decided to fine Estonia for not timely implementing the Competition Directive. The fine is 400 000 euros, and also will be charged daily at 3000 euros until the directive is implemented.
The reason for the delay was the political confrontation: for many years there has been a dispute about whether to prosecute competition violations in administrative proceedings or also in misdemeanor proceedings.
