Poles are open to changing the industry

Research by Pracuj.pl shows that Poles are not afraid of changes. As many as 7 out of 10 respondents declare that when looking for a job, they look at job advertisements in many different industries.

It is worth noting that not only young people are willing to change their career. More and more often, people with more professional experience decide to take such a step.

Among the Pracuj.pl survey respondents, the largest percentage of people browsing advertisements from various industries are people aged 45-54 (76%) and representatives of the age group 55-65 (74%). Among the youngest respondents (18-24 years old), this percentage reaches 70% of respondents, and the lowest is in the age group 25-34 years, where it reaches 67% of respondents.

More than half of respondents (51.4%) are currently considering changing their industry or professional specialization. 25.9% declare that they are considering it due to the high level of stress in their current place of employment. Another 25.5% give the reason for their considerations in this regard to the fact that the job is not consistent with their interests.

As many as 1/4 of people who are currently looking for a new job took this step precisely because they wanted to change their industry or profession. This is a significant percentage which shows how dynamically the labor market is changing. This change may be due to many factors. Some respondents declare that they do not want to change their job because they are interested in further development in their industry or profession – such declarations are made by 21% of the Pracuj.pl survey respondents. There are also economic reasons for which half of the respondents are looking for work. The dynamic development of new technologies and automation of work processes make some professions less promising, while others are gaining in importance. Employees, wanting to ensure professional stability and development, decide to retrain and acquire new competences that are more desirable on the market – says Alina Michałek, recruitment expert at Pracuj.pl.

Flexibility and adaptability are becoming more and more valued features among employees. Employers today are looking for people who can adapt to changing conditions and quickly acquire new skills. Therefore, changing an industry or profession is often seen as evidence of readiness to develop and openness to new opportunities.

Working abroad is not a problem

Poles declare great openness to traveling for the purpose of employment outside the country.

The study shows that as many as 1/3 of respondents had the opportunity to work in other countries during their professional career. The fact that many Poles already have experience working abroad certainly makes them more open to such opportunities in the future. Almost 4 out of 10 Poles (39%) declare their readiness to go abroad to work.
However, not only those who have already had a chance to try their skills outside Poland are ready for such trips, but above all, also young people. Among Generation Z representatives, this percentage open to going to work in other countries increases to as much as 51%.

In the past, Poles often went abroad as unskilled workers, often undertaking physical work. Today the situation is slightly different. Contemporary Polish emigrants are largely qualified specialists who are valued on international labor markets. As members of the European community, Poles have access to a wide range of professional and educational opportunities throughout Europe – adds Kalina Walento-Furmańska, Recruitment Expert at Pracuj.pl.

How do Poles look for change?

The data shows that they largely do it via job portals – this is how 69% of respondents look for a new job. However, this is not the only path chosen by respondents.

45% of us rely on mobile applications as a quick and convenient way to browse job offers at any time. Employer websites are a source of information for 42% of respondents, which shows that many people check offers at the source. Social media are used by 34% of respondents, while others choose a more personal approach – 28% of respondents forward their CV to friends, hoping for a recommendation.

Interestingly, 25% of respondents declare that they take part in internal recruitment. This is a sign that many people who are thinking about changing their specialization are not considering leaving their current employer.
Employment agency services are popular among 24% of respondents who are looking for professional support in finding a new job. However, 18% of respondents use employee referral programs, counting on recommendations from friends.

When it comes to places where Poles most often look for work, home is the clear leader – this is indicated by 79% of respondents. Nevertheless, as many as 37% of Poles are looking for a job… at work. Almost 4 out of 10 Poles indicate that they have browsed job offers while performing professional duties for their current employer.

Public transport also plays a significant role – 31% of respondents are looking for a job in the metro, bus or tram. Traveling by car as a passenger is an opportunity to browse offers for 21% of respondents. Free time also turns out to be important here – every fifth Pole uses time to look for a job during holidays or vacations, and 15% of respondents do it at social gatherings.
