- Compared to the same month last year, in June 2024 there was an increase in sickness absence in enterprises by 1.74 percentage points – to an average of 8.14%. Any such fluctuation causes measurable financial losses for employers, and this is especially noticeable in large production plants.
- The costs of employing additional replacement workers, overtime for current employees and unrealized production significantly burden enterprise budgets. Employee absenteeism can also damage a company's reputation by portraying it as inefficient or having problems managing its staff.
– Abuse of sickness absence by employees is a significant problem of the modern labor market. It is especially worth paying attention to this during the holiday season, when there are more abuses and the absences of some employees significantly burden other employees, who have to take over additional responsibilities. Taking control of the absenteeism chaos also has a tangible impact on improving the company's financial condition, says Mikołaj Zając, president of Conperio.
Problem with alcohol on L4
The data received from Conperio is extremely disturbing, showing that as many as 20% of employees were under the influence of alcohol during sick leave inspections. The employees explained, among others: drinking a few beers, one beer the day before or drinking only "hundreds". Moreover, some of them were unsteady on their feet during the inspection and were unable to stand upright.
Employees get "sick" during party and summer festival periods
Conperio data may additionally indicate that employees often use sick leave to take part in mass events typical of the summer period, such as concerts or festivals. There are many mass events taking place in Poland, attracting an increasing number of participants.
Festivals often start during the week and end on the weekend. Participants, wanting to make full use of this time, try to "bridge" the festival time. This phenomenon involves employees taking sick leave at times that enable them to combine vacation days, holidays and weekends. The reason is obvious and is to obtain as many days off from work as possible.
