The season of intense work is underway and it is a hot time on farms, which also means an increased risk of various types of accidents and events. Summer, however, is not the only time of year when serious damage to agricultural equipment often occurs on farms.
We invite you to listen to an interview with an expert – Mariusz Gilicki, deputy director of agricultural insurance at Generali Agro, in which we discuss very important and practical topics related to agricultural machinery insurance. These things are really worth knowing.
- This year is also full of damage to crops, caused by, among others, by spring frosts and hail. There was also a lot of damage caused by fire and occurring during equipment storage.
- – Just a week ago we recorded damage: burning of 8 machines during storage for the amount of approximately half a million zlotys – said Mariusz Gilicki, deputy director of agricultural insurance at Generali Agro.
- When concluding a contract for a new policy or renewing an existing one, it is worth paying attention to, among others: attention to the scope of damage covered by the insurance, which should be as wide as possible. The second, no less important thing is the insurance sum, which should be consistent with the market value of the given machine.
- You must also remember to correctly record the insured machine on the policy. They should include, among others: make, model, year of production and, above all, identification number. “Incorrect equipment data is a common mistake when concluding insurance,” notes Mariusz Gilicki.
- The policy should also indicate elements of equipment for a given machine that can be additionally installed and may be very valuable, e.g. devices related to precision agriculture. They do not have to be permanently attached to the machine, and their retrofitting – even during the policy period – should be reported to the insurer.
- The cost of agricultural machinery insurance is relatively small and is – depending on the type of equipment – from 0.5 to 1.4-1.6 percent. its values.
- It is worth taking out year-round insurance and an expert from Generali Agro encourages you to do so. “It is not much more expensive than, for example, a 3-month-old. Overall, the risk of damage occurring throughout the year is so high that it is simply not worth it in the short term. Besides, we have peace of mind all year round," argues Gilicki.
- Insuring a larger number of machines on one Agro Ekspert policy is profitable. The insurance premium is then lower.
- Agricultural machines are often used for services – either in the form of the so-called neighborly help or as part of formal service activities. Agro Ekspert insurance covers damage to equipment resulting from work performed outside your own farm.
- A combine harvester course is not required when driving a combine harvester on the road. But it is required by the insurer if damage occurs during work.
