Планируют ввести налог на абонентскую плату для стриминговых платформ

The end of the amendments to the Subscriber Tax Act for streaming platforms, or the so-called Netflix tax. It is expected that it will be introduced already in this year to receive funds for the production of local film content, wrote with a link to the Latvian radio portal Lsm+.Such a tax is already in force in many countries in Europe. The amount to be collected is relatively small, but the industry representatives support the measure. The planned size of the payment is 3.5% of the share of the
revenue from subscriber payments received in the Latvian market. Revenues from this tax are estimated to approximately 600 600 000 Euros per year. The tax will be paid not
by consumers, but by streaming companies. According to the experience
of other countries, the introduction of this tax is not directly related to the increase of subscriber payments, the ministry spokeswoman added. This is indicated by and Kinoproducer Andrei Ekis, who highly appreciated the tax idea,
which he considers logical: “I think this is an excellent tool. I don’t think that consumers will feel this tax. Why is this necessary? Our market is extremely small, and you can see serials from other countries, big countries, on Netflix, but we also want to see our own stories. It’s finally the moment when our
film industry can make good movies and tell our stories to others.” Subscription tax varies from country to country in Europe. For example, in
Bulgariaitis2%,andinFranceitis25%.
