At the beginning of June, the long-awaited meeting of farmers, industry representatives and those in power in the Sejm took place. Many topics were discussed there and surprising words were spoken from the podium by Monika Piątkowska. What? Cooperation between the industry and farmers
– Agriculture and agri-food economy are a system of connected vessels. It is not just the farmer who is an extremely important element in this chain. But these are also processors, trading companies, purchasing companies, Polish and foreign, including international concerns. For many months we have had this rhetoric of conflicts between farmers and processors and traders. It may not always be done consciously. But I wanted to draw attention with this statement to the fact that international corporations, large economic entities, are an inseparable element of the agri-food sector in a global context – Monika Piątkowska replied.
She added that Poland is a significant food producer and grain exporter. And it is thanks to companies that these surpluses are sent abroad.

The state should provide tools
– We need the cooperation of international partners. If the Polish state is afraid of excessive involvement or interference of an international concern in the Polish agri-food market, then there are legislative tools to set these boundaries. This was the message of my statement, she explained.
She added that individual links in this chain must not conflict. You are not allowed to play individual segments. It has to be cooperation and cooperation.
– Farmers need trading companies, including international concerns, so that they can export the surplus of grain that farmers produce. The role of the state is to equip this sector, not only with funds in the form of subsidies, but also with systemic tools that will improve the farmer's position on the global market – added Piątkowska.
