Pasažieru vilciens earned almost 700,000 euros in profit in the first half of the year

Pasažieru vilciens в первом полугодии заработал почти 700 000 евро прибыли

In the first half of this year, the joint-stock company Pasažieru vilciens (PV) earned a profit of 695,349 euros, which is 2.2 times more than in the first half of last year, when the company earned 315,461 euros, PV representatives told the Delfi portal. PV's revenue from passenger transportation in the first half of this year amounted to 11.741 million euros, which is approximately two million more than in the first half of last year. PV currently uses 28 new electric trains for passenger transportation, with one of them undergoing dynamic testing. The manufacturer Škoda Vagonka has committed to delivering the remaining three trains by the end of September. The company plans to completely stop using old electric trains in the near future. In the first six months of this year, PV carried 8.99 million passengers, which is 9.3% or 767,317 passengers more than in the same period last year. Of these, 89% or 8.024 million passengers were carried by electric trains on suburban routes, and 11% or 965,409 passengers by diesel trains on regional routes and the Sigulda railway line. In the first half of this year, PV trains traveled 3.646 million kilometers, which is 20.2% more than in the first half of last year. The increase in PV mileage is explained by an increase in the number of trips, for example, in the direction of Daugavpils and Liepaja, as well as an improvement in the schedule on certain routes. At the same time, the accuracy of trips, an indicator reflecting how many trips were performed in accordance with the train schedule, averaged 97.2% in the first half of 2024. It was previously reported that in the first half of 2023, PV operated with a turnover of EUR 29.132 million, of which revenue from passenger transportation amounted to EUR 9.7 million. The company also made a profit of EUR 315,461. For the entire last year, PV's audited turnover was EUR 59,788 million, which is 14.4% more than in 2022, but the company's profit decreased several times and amounted to EUR 3,177. Pasažieru vilciens was established in 2001, separating domestic passenger transportation from the functions of Latvijas dzelzceļš. Previously, Pasažieru vilciens was a 100% subsidiary of Latvijas dzelzceļš, but in October 2008 it was transformed into a state-owned enterprise.
