Gold medals at the Paris Olympics are more expensive than ever before, with raw materials alone costing more than 900 euros this year due to skyrocketing prices.

The medal contains six grams of gold, the price of which reached a record high in mid-July thanks to massive central bank purchases. The price of silver, which makes up at least 92.5% of the weight of gold medals, has also risen significantly this year, Bloomberg reports.
