Nitori, Japan’s largest furniture and home furnishing retail chain, opened their first store in India at R City Mall in Mumbai. With this launch, Nitori enters the USD 23.9 billion Indian home furnishing market (Ken Research), and is position as a brand offeringhigh-quality furniture and decor products at affordable prices.
The brand’s debut in India is part of its global expansion strategy of operating 3,000 stores globally by 2032. The debut store is spacious with a 32,000 sq.ft carpet area, and window display that showcases the brand vibe along with the brand’s pricing and USP.
Masanori Takeda, Executive Vice President in Charge of Overseas Businesses, General Manager, Global Merchandising Division, and General Manager, Global Sales Promotion Office, Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd commented on the launch, saying, “This store is special because with it we enter into the Indian furniture and home furnishing industry, which is an important market. The store’s inaugural event occurred in the 1.2 million sq. ft. R City, which hosts over 350 premium brands and attracts 1 million monthly visitors. The Nitori Store at R City will feature an assortment of premium home furnishing items for different categories, with a diverse product range.
Nitori Group is working on plans to open 280 stores by 2032. The brand says that they are expanding presence in Asia, and plan to establish around 100 stores outside Japan by the end of FY2024.
