Japanese automaker Nissan Nissan Motor Corp. will cut production and employees at its facilities in the United States, writes The Asahi Shimbun.

The Nissan plans to lay off 9 thousands of employees across the world, including; including in China, because of decreasing sales and profitability with substantial increases in product inventories. In particular, at the US plant in Smyrna (Tennessee) one production line will retain two working shifts, while another will retain only one shift. This enterprise produces the Murano, Pathfinder and Rogue, and also the luxury model Infiniti QX60.

The Canton (Mississippi) plant, where the Altima sedan and the Front pickup are produced; Frontier pickup truck, Nissan will reduce speed on one line, and on another will keep one shift. Later gradual adjustments in mode of operation will be introduced at the factory in Decherd (Tennessee), where the engines are produced.

When announcing the plan in November Nissan did not specify where the will take cuts in personnel. The company employs more than 133 thousand people, the proposed layoffs will affect approximately 6% of the staff. The automaker also intends to reduce its global production capacity by 20%.
