New record of negative electricity prices in Europe (traders.lt)

Last year in Europe there were a record number of periods of negative electricity costs. Montel Analytics reports that their number compared to 2023 has almost doubled.

2024 years of periods with negative electricity costs across European countries the number of generally cumulatively rose up to 4838 days, and this is almost two times more than 2023 years, Montel Analytics reports.

The highest hits of such catches have been recorded in our Old Continent Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands. The cost of renewable energy occurs when the production of renewable energy exceeds demand.

Most negative electricity prices occurred at weekends, more often on and work days. Specialists note that electricity generators are willing to pay extra to take energy because it is less than to suspension of generation. It is true that negative prices are mostly related to short-term markets.
