On December 18, the Council of Ministers adopted a regulation on the Polish Classification of Activities prepared by the Central Statistical Office. The catalog of codes has been modified and expanded to include new types of activities. Once the regulations come into effect, entrepreneurs will have 2 years to adjust to the new PKD classification.
What are PKD codes?
The Polish Classification of Activities is a systematization of business activities used in public statistics, record-keeping and accounting. When registering a business, an entrepreneur provides the PKD codes, which describe the type of business conducted.
The necessity of PKD 2025 is due to changes made to the classification at the European Union level. The new classification will replace the existing one, which has been in force since 2007.
Classification PKD 2025
The changes introduced adapt PKD to market, technological and social realities. The PKD 2025 classification will include new activities that have emerged in the economy in recent years, and will ensure harmonization of economic statistics within the European Union in areas such as the digital economy, circular economy and bio-economy. It will also introduce greater precision in the description of traditional industries, making it easier for companies to match their activities to the correct codes.
In the course of work on the new classification, the Central Statistical Office received proposals from more than 170 business organizations.
What does this mean for entrepreneurs?
The new PKD classification will be effective as of January 1, 2025 in all public registers, including the National Court Register and the Central Register and Information on Economic Activity. Entrepreneurs will have 2 years to adjust their PKD codes to the new classification.
Entrepreneurs enrolled in CEIDG
Entrepreneurs starting business after January 1, 2025
Entrepreneurs filing after January 1, 2025. application to start a business will already use the new classification.
Entrepreneurs operating before January 1, 2025
Entrepreneurs who operated before January 1, 2025 have 2 years to update their PKD codes. With each change of entry, the CEIDG system will require the adjustment of PKD codes to the new PKD 2025 classification.
If an entrepreneur does not update the entry for 2 years, it is planned to automatically reclassify PKD 2007 codes to PKD 2025 in accordance with the so-called “transition (linkage) keys” defined by the CSO.
