Slaughter of calves and visits of staff on farms must be performed in accordance with rigorous hygienic protocols. The Ministry informed, that these prohibitions will last at least a few days.

Other sectors have been asked to provide information about this,

whether animals or animal products were last directly or directly imported from Brandenburg to the Netherlands.

In Germany available vaccines

Thus in Germany the authorities have informed, that there is available a supply of vaccines against the serotype of foot-and-mouth disease, which was the cause of this epidemic.

Institute Friedrich Loeffler (FLI), a leading research center for animal diseases in Germany, confirmed detection of serotype O virus, though how it reached it into the stock of water buffaloes, remains unclear.

Responsive vaccines against this serotype are available in the German antigen bank FMD. The bank of FMD antigens has been created specifically for such cases, as the current epidemic.

.

As reports FLI, after activation by the appropriate state bank antigens FMD will be able to produce necessary vaccines within

some days.

To determine the real scale of the spread epidemic and that, whether an appropriate vaccine will be introduced, it

will be necessary to test all susceptible animals.
