Soon, residents of Latvia will be able to receive money for packaging not in the form of a check or cash, as now, but into their bank account. Swedbank, in cooperation with SIA Depozīta Iepakojuma Operators and the TRY Dig Latvia agency, have developed a new deposit packaging payment service dPays. Currently, the new solution is intended for summer festivals and events. In turn, the ability to use dPays at packaging delivery points is planned to be introduced in the fall, when dPays will also be integrated into packaging delivery points; SIA Depozīta Iepakojuma Operators is currently working on this task. As Evgeniy Ivanov, head of the corporate governance department at Swedbank notes, “it is enterprises that have so far experienced the greatest difficulties in using the services of the deposit system. If a company was engaged in catering or organizing events, then handing over containers to taro machines against a receipt did not allow these funds to be returned to the company’s balance sheet. With the dPays solution, this problem has been solved, because now the company not only purchases the goods by paying a deposit for the packaging, but can also return these funds to its bank account when the packaging is returned." This will also help return company funds used, for example, at employee parties or other corporate events where drinks are purchased and packaging can be returned to deposit collection points. Meanwhile, Miks Sturitis, Chairman of the Board of SIA Depozīta Iepakojuma Operators, admits that the dPays solution will diversify and improve the transfer of packaging in taro machines. Large hotel companies have entered into an agreement with SIA Depozīta Iepakojuma Operators to collect packaging on their premises, while smaller companies use taro machines. “By creating a solution that allows deposit money to be returned to a bank account, customers are no longer limited in their ability to use their funds as they wish. This becomes especially relevant when considering expanding the range of deposit services, when it will be possible to return not only drinks bottles , but also other products used in the circular economy,” says Sturitis.
