The Forța Fermierilor Association asked the government to extend the period for issuing permits for the import of cereals and oilseeds from Ukraine. According to the union, free import from Ukraine threatens not only another wave of agricultural protests, but also a reaction from Romania, which is afraid of the re-export of Ukrainian grain from Moldova – reports the Moldovan portal NOI.md.
“We also draw attention to the fact that the free import of cereals and oilseeds would involve a huge risk of introducing a ban on the export of cereals and oilseeds from the Republic of Moldova to the Romanian market, which suspects the re-export of production from Ukraine via Moldova. Lack of action by the government may trigger another farmers' protest. Our association supports the European path and wants the Republic of Moldova to support the agricultural sector, following the example of the European Union, through effective actions that will enable the development of farmers and villages," we read in the appeal of the Moldovan industry organization.
The Moldovan portal also informs that the government intends to do so by September 14 this year. extend the derogation from the provisions of the Act on Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Quarantine in relation to grain from Ukraine that is in transit across the country's borders. This means exemption from photosanitary tests. The authorities argue that agricultural goods are transported by specialized means of transport, so the risk is minimal and tests and quarantine are unnecessary.
