The Ministry of Finance is not supporting the legislative bill initiated by the Parliamentary faction of the Conservative People’s Party Estonia (EKRE) , proposing a reduction of the rate of tax on
turnover of food from 22% to 5%, wrote Rus.ERR.
According to the ministry’s estimate, reducing the rate of tax on the turnover of food would cause significant costs to the state budget, which would amount to at least 400 million euros per year.
“Given the state of government finances, such measure is not reasonable and effective,” the Minfin said.
Ministry also stresses that the influence of the reduction of the rate of tax on prices will only partial.
