By the end of the first half of the year, about 13.2 million tons of milk were processed in the Russian Federation, which is 3% more year on year. According to Soyuzmoloko, the dairy sector also maintained positive dynamics: in January-May 2024, the production of cream increased by 23%, to 146.5 thousand tons, cottage cheese and products based on it – by 9%, to 334.5 thousand tons, ice cream – by 14%, to 260.3 thousand tons, yogurt – by 13%, to 330.6 thousand tons. The smallest growth was shown by sour cream – by 2%, to 242.9 thousand tons, kefir – by 1% to 400.4 thousand tons, cheese products – by 1%, to 85.0 thousand tons.
Analysts noted that, despite the increase in production volumes, there was no reduction in retail prices for the listed dairy products. However, their cost remains below the food inflation recorded in the country. According to market participants, the cost of final products is affected by increased costs for manufacturers, which are associated with higher prices for logistics and raw materials.
General Director of Soyuzmolok Artem Belov said that in 2023, due to lower prices for raw materials, companies in the industry were able to successfully increase production. This helped keep price increases below the national average food inflation, which, according to Rosstat, reached 7.42% in annual terms at the end of 2023. According to the calculations of the same department, from May 2023 to May 2024, prices for milk and dairy products on average in Russia increased by 4.23% year on year.
The total revenue of the top 30 companies producing dairy products for 2023 amounted to 857 billion rubles, which is 10.1% more year-on-year, follows from the joint rating of Soyuzmolok, Milknews and Streda Consulting. The leader of the rating was the Wimm-Bill-Dann company (part of PepsiCo; brands “House in the Village”, “Miracle”, “Jolly Milkman”) with an indicator of 136.7 billion rubles, which in the last three years has grown on average by 8–10% per year, overtaking by 17% the former leader of the Health & Nutrition rating (ex-Danone; brands Prostokvashino, Danissimo) with 116.6 billion rubles.
