Piotr Doligalski farms approximately 750 hectares, mainly belonging to class IV. At the same time, his farm specializes in dairy production, and the herd of cattle numbers nearly a thousand animals. As he himself says, he farms in his own way, uses solutions that work in practice in farm conditions and is a supporter, above all, of those that are brilliant in their simplicity.

No-till farming was supposed to fail
As the farmer says, his adventure with no-plough farming began 17 years ago. At that time, he experimented a lot on his farm, and putting the plow aside on several hectares was initially intended to show that satisfactory results could not be achieved this way. However, it turned out differently. The yields were no worse than after plowing, and the savings in time and fuel were significant, especially since from the beginning, no-plow cultivation was supposed to be as shallow as possible without hindering plant development.
Piotr Doligalski soon started using strip cultivation in species with a deeper root system, and this system has been working on his farm for over a dozen years. The large herd of cattle mentioned at the beginning also means large amounts of manure. The farmer not only debunks the myth that manure cannot be used effectively in no-plough farming, but also emphasizes that this is a solution that improves the effectiveness of this fertilizer.

Spring barley sown in November
A slightly unusual solution that the farmer used last season was the November sowing of spring barley. As Piotr Doligalski points out, he is very satisfied with the results, and the barley yield that was sold as brewing barley was 6.4 t/ha. The farmer believes that the key to the success of such a system is the sowing date so that the barley germinates before winter, but does not start emerging, which will protect it from freezing and ensure a quick start of spring vegetation.
