“Lots of salmon”: almost half of Russians overeat heavily during stress

The sushi and roll delivery network “Mnogo Salmon” surveyed 3,500 men and women across Russia aged 18 to 45 years. Service analysts found out how Russians cope with stress and how it affects their eating habits.

According to the survey, 38% of Russians can call themselves anxious people. At the same time, almost a third of respondents (30%) experience stress every day. When asked how stress affects the lives of Russians, 36% of people answered that they try to distract themselves by eating stress. 23% of respondents begin to procrastinate, 15% throw things around and get angry.

At the same time, when eating stress, more than 40% of Russians prefer something sweet (chocolate, cakes, ice cream); 31% of respondents begin to eat regular food, for example, porridge during stress.

42% of people overeat when they feel anxious. 38% can barely restrain themselves from eating the entire refrigerator during times of stress. In terms of frequency of eating during stress, 34% of Russians begin to eat more often, but not critically, while 18% of respondents eat every hour. 20% of people, on the contrary, cannot eat at all when they are anxious.

The preferred method of obtaining food for anxiety is delivery (44%). The most popular food items for delivery during times of stress were pizza (41%) and sushi (33%). At the same time, a fifth of Russians cook on their own to distract themselves and calm down. 23% of respondents take what is in the refrigerator.

It is noteworthy that the largest percentage of respondents recover from anxiety also with the help of food – 31% of Russians go with friends to a cafe or bar in order to finally calm down. While 27% of people stay at home to be alone, 26% read and watch a lot of movies, and 16% engage in physical activity.
