Not any country, which after Donald Trump’s entry into power has announced the intention to increase spending on defense to 5 percent of the GDP, there is no realistic plan to realize this target, so similar statements should be avoided, said in a interview ERR Minister
of Finance Jurgen Ligi (Party of Reform).
Ligi, who already said last autumn that increasing defense spending to 5 percent of GDP is not realistic, now noted that this is a distant target.
“Such confusing statements need to be stopped. But at the same time Estonia is really very serious about the isolationist trends of America, and it’s no big surprise to us that we have to increase defense spending, ” he added.
