forests, pastures, land orne
A few days on our portal we looked at the question of average size of farms in countries Mercosur. Remember, that according to data, available on portals FAOSTAT, there farmers have an average areal farm between 40 ha (in Bolivia) a 620 ha (in Argentina).
A significant part of the land used agriculturally in South America is occupied by permanent and transitional green land, which has obviously a relationship with large cattle and good developed beef production. In dependence on the state, permanent grassland occupies from 2/3 to over 3/4 of agricultural land in countries Mercosur.
Despite alarming declarations about deforestation in countries Mercosur, forests and forests cover a large surface of land. For example: according to reported by FAOSTAT results of the agricultural census in 2022 year. in Argentina, of the total area of 155 million ha of land, in the composition
of farms, land covered by forests and woodland occupy 31 million ha.

How large crops are in countries Mercosur
Despite large area of forests, persistent green crops or multiannual crops (e.g. cultivation), coral land still forms a significant subset of land, used by agricultural farms in Mercosur countries. According to available data from FAOSTAT and Global Yield Gap Atlas production of “typical”, one-year agricultural plants on agricultural land takes in Argentina about. 37 million ha, in Bolivia about. 4 million ha, in Brazil about 45 million ha, in Paraguay about 4 million ha, in Uruguay about. 1.5 million ha. For comparison the area of porous land in EU is about. 98 million ha, and in Poland 11 million ha. It is also worth remembering, that in many regions of Southern America the harvest happens twice in the season.
The information reported below is based on FAOSTAT, USDA and Global Yield Gap Atlas data. In Argentina the largest areal in last years (according to the claimed area) is occupied.Soybeans (about 14-16 million ha), followed by corn (about 7-8 million ha), wheat (about 5.5-6 million ha) and sunflower (about 2-2.5 million ha). High popularity is also enjoyed by barley, beans, cotton, cane sugar, sorghum and nuts earth.
In Bolivia the leading crops are soy (1.6-1.8 million ha), sorghum (approx. 0.5 million ha) and corn (approx. 0.4 million ha). Far behind the podium are wheat, potatoes, rice and cane sugar. In Brazil the largest areal is obviously soy (approx. 42-44 million ha), a also corn (approx. 21 million ha) and sugar cane (approx. 9-10 million ha). Other popular crops are wheat, beans, rice, cotton. You can’t forget also about the Brazilian cow, though it is an growing perennial crop.
In Paraguay the most popular crops are soy (approx. 3.5 million ha), corn (approx. 0.9 million ha) and wheat (approx. 0.4 million ha). The next of important crop species are rice, manioc, cane sugar, fasole, sesame, thistle. In Uruguay substantial areas of crop also fall on soybeans, wheat, barley, thistle, corn and sorghum.
As an interesting fact we can add, that in data from censuses of agricultural countries Mercosur soy
and not included in the group of crops -. as we used to classify in Europe – but
as an ole plant (like us thistle).
