Kujawsko-pomorskie: Wybito prewencyjnie świnie w jednym gospodarstwie. Ponad sto blokad stada

Let us recall. The first outbreak of ASF in pigs in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship was confirmed last Friday (2.08) in the town of Kałdus in the Chełmno commune. The disease in another herd was confirmed two days later – it concerned a farm in the town of Starogród. The farms kept 37 and 127 pigs, respectively.

One herd was culled as a precaution.

Veterinary services also decided to preventively cull another herd located in the immediate vicinity of one of the outbreaks. It housed 15 pigs.

In accordance with the regulation of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivode, a protected area (within a 3 km radius of the outbreak) and a threatened area (within a 10 km radius of the outbreak) were designated around the outbreaks.

As we were informed by the Voivodeship Veterinary Inspectorate in Bydgoszcz, the infected area concerns only part of the Chełmno district. It covers 13 herds, with a total of 890 animals. The threatened area covers parts of three districts. In the Chełmno district, 50 herds with a total of 2,076 pigs were included in it. In the neighbouring Świecie district, 65 herds (5,442 pigs) were included in the threatened area, while in the Bydgoszcz district, 6 herds (285 pigs) were included.

It is worth mentioning that finding yourself in an infected area is associated with a herd blockade for a period of 40 days, while in an endangered area – for a period of 30 days.

Where does ASF in Chełmno County come from?

An epizootic investigation is underway to explain how the disease entered the Chełmno district. As we have learned, the most likely option at present is the transmission of the virus on the wheels of agricultural machinery.
