Following The Kroger Co. and Albertsons Cos. Inc. announcement in April, to sell assets to C&S Wholesale Grocers as part of its proposed merger. The companies shared the location of the impacted stores, distribution center and plants in a new document.
Of the 579 stores to be divested, the states with the most divestitures include Washington (124), Arizona (101), Colorado (91), California (63) and Oregon (62).
The divested distribution centers include two in Arizona, two in Colorado, one in Utah and one in Washington. The company will also divest its Denver Dairy Plant.
“You’ll see that the 579 stores and other assets to be divested were thoughtfully chosen to allow C&S to succeed in the geographies and maintain – if not increase – the level of competition that consumers benefit from,” Kroger said July 9 in a statement, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
In April, Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s Chairman and CEO, said the updated divestiture package to C&S Wholesale Grocers would ensure divested stores would not close as a result of the merger.
“The updated divestiture plan continues to ensure no stores will close as a result of the merger and that all frontline associates will remain employed, all existing collective bargaining agreements will continue, and associates will continue to receive industry-leading health care and pension benefits alongside bargained-for wages,” he said.
