As a result of the motion submitted during the 5th session of the National Council of Agricultural Chambers of the 7th term, which took place on September 11, 2024 in Parzniew, on September 18, the management board of the National Council of Agricultural Chambers applied to the Minister of Agriculture for changes in the regulations regarding support for breeders from the CAP for the years 2023-2027. This concerns a reduction in the required animal density, qualifying farmers to apply for support, in connection with the effects of drought.
Eliminate the effects of drought
"Reducing the stocking density to 0.2 DJP/ha would be a solution that would allow farmers to continue their activities during a difficult period of drought and would contribute to minimizing the negative economic and ecological effects of this phenomenon. This proposal also responds to the need to support farms that implement the assumptions of sustainable agriculture and contribute to environmental protection, which is one of the priorities of the Common Agricultural Policy," the KRIR board writes to Minister Czesław Siekierski.
There is a shortage of animal feed
As the agricultural self-government argues, the prevailing drought has a negative impact on the availability of feed, especially from permanent grasslands. "The lack of sufficient amounts of feed from permanent grasslands causes significant difficulties in maintaining the required level of animal stocking density, which negatively affects the possibility of meeting the criteria provided for in the CAP intervention," we read in the motion of the chambers. Therefore, lowering the stocking density standards will allow farmers "to adapt more flexibly to the current, difficult climatic conditions, without exposing them to financial losses resulting from failure to meet the conditions for receiving support."
