The Board of the National Council of Agricultural Chambers has approached Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski regarding low agricultural pensions in the context of the increase in average wages and the amount of benefits for persons unable to work.
Due to the significant increase in the cost of living and average wages, the fact that the lowest agricultural pension, after at least 25 years of hard work on the farm and paying contributions to agricultural pension and disability insurance during this time, from March 1, 2024 amounts to PLN 1,780.96! – writes KRIR in its speech. – What is particularly outrageous for farmers is the comparison of the amount and conditions for obtaining an agricultural pension with the conditions and amount of the so-called "alcohol pension", which is the same and does not require many years of hard work – he adds.

KRIR appeals for increases in farmers' pensions
The KRIR Board adds that after last year's change in the rules for indexation of agricultural pension and disability benefits by linking the amount of the benefit from KRUS and ZUS using indicators (the KRUS pension is 90% of the minimum ZUS pension). For each year of work over 25 years, the farmer receives an additional PLN 10.
The members of the Polish People's Party and the Civic Coalition supported the postulate of equalizing the agricultural pension from KRUS to the minimum pension from ZUS (from 90 to 100%) during the 9th term of the Sejm, which is why the agricultural self-government requests that the current ruling coalition make the changes to agricultural pensions expected by farmers – reminds KRIR. – The Board of the National Council of Agricultural Chambers requests an urgent change of regulations and an increase in agricultural pensions by submitting a government draft amendment to the regulations on agricultural pensions. The change should also include an increase in the supplement for a longer contribution period and for paying higher contributions (2- and 3-fold) by farmers with larger farms.
