‘Knuspr on Amazon’: new alliance for online groceries in Germany

A new (online) grocery powerhouse emerges in Germany, as US e-commerce giant Amazon is teaming up with online supermarket Knuspr.

Launch in Berlin

Czech online supermarket group Rohlik is taking a major step in its European expansion: German subsidiary Knuspr will partner with e-commerce giant Amazon to deliver groceries to Amazon Prime members in Germany.

The collaboration will start in the Berlin region under the name ‘Knuspr on Amazon’. In the coming months, the aim is to expand the service to other German cities, including Munich and the Rhine-Main region.

Knuspr will offer a range of more than 15,000 products through the Amazon platform. The offer ranges from daily groceries to products from local farmers and artisans. Orders will be delivered within just a few hours.

More competition for Picnic

The deal with Amazon is part of Rohlik’s ambitious growth strategy. The company, which operates in five European countries, expects to achieve sales of more than 1 billion euros this year. In the first half of 2024, the group achieved 42% growth.

For rival Picnic, however, it means facing additional competition. Like Knuspr, the Dutch online supermarket wants to conquer the German grocery market, but to do so Picnic is betting on a partnership with physical supermarket group Edeka.
